Unsportsmanlike conduct, the whip and dangerous hits
What counts as misconduct before, during and after a match, how much a player may use the whip, and when a hard hit into an opponent is a foul.
To protect the quality of the game and the spectacle, the safety of those taking part and their horses, and due respect for the other players, officials and public present, players must, before, during and after matches, behave in a sporting manner in keeping with the prestige of polo. Acts of misconduct include, among others, shouting, protests, swinging sticks about, swearing, unjustified delays, arguments, offences or insults to other players, to the match officials and/or to the public, dangerous or bad-faith play, and any other act that affects the normal course of the game or the spectacle, whether done by players, spectators, or staff or members of a team. Any action that endangers the physical safety of the public, players, referees and/or staff working at the match (goal judges, grooms, photographers, etc.), such as hitting the ball after it has crossed the limits of the field or after the Umpire's whistle has blown, shall also constitute unsportsmanlike conduct. To protect the physical wellbeing of the horse, excessive use of the whip and dangerous or deliberate hits of the ball at others, in the Umpire's judgement, shall be considered unsportsmanlike conduct. The Umpire may give a warning and/or a sanction.

En resguardo de la calidad del juego y del espectáculo, la seguridad de los participantes y sus caballos y el debido respeto hacia los demás jugadores, autoridades y público presentes, los jugadores, antes, durante y después de los partidos deberán mantener una conducta deportiva acorde al prestigio del polo. Constituyen, entre otros, actos de inconducta los gritos, reclamos, revoleos de tacos, palabrotas, demoras injustificadas, discusiones, agravios o insultos a otros jugadores, a las autoridades del partido y/o al público, jugadas peligrosas o de mala fe y cualquier otro acto que afecte el normal desarrollo del juego o del espectáculo sea este efectuado por jugadores, espectadores o personal o miembros de algún equipo. También constituirá conducta antideportiva toda acción que ponga en peligro la integridad física del público, jugadores, referees y/o del personal afectado al partido (banderilleros, petiseros, fotógrafos, etc.) como pegarle a la bocha después de haber traspuesto los límites de la cancha o después de haber sonado el silbato del Juez. Para preservar la integridad física del caballo el uso excesivo de la fusta y los bochazos peligrosos o deliberados, a criterio del Juez, serán considerados como conducta antideportiva. Pudiendo el Juez aplicar una advertencia y/o sanción.
Excessive use of the whip: 1) A player may whip his horse when the ball is out of play provided he keeps his left hand on the reins. 2) During play the whip may be used with the left hand provided it does not go above shoulder height, and the stroke may only be applied to the horse's shoulder or quarters, on no more than two occasions. 3) Sanctions of this kind shall be decided by the referee at his discretion.

Uso excesivo de la fusta: 1) Un jugador podrá fustear su caballo cuando la bocha esté fuera de juego siempre que mantenga su mano izquierda en las riendas. 2) Durante el juego la fusta puede utilizarse con la mano izquierda siempre que esta no pase la altura del hombro y el fustazo sólo podrá aplicarse sobre la paleta o el cuarto del caballo en no más de dos ocasiones. 3) La sanciones de éste tipo serán definidas por el referees de acuerdo a su criterio.
34 Bochazo peligroso o deliberado
Dangerous or deliberate hit of the ball at a player: 1) If a player who is standing and in possession of the ball violently strikes an opponent or his mount who is well placed and two horse lengths or less away, he shall be penalised with the appropriate foul. If he also injures the opponent or his mount in any way, a yellow card shall also be given. 2) If a player who is standing and in possession of the ball violently strikes an opponent or his mount who is trying to block the shot and is two horse lengths or less away, the foul shall be given against the defending player for not properly clearing the space. If the player or his mount is injured in any way, he shall also receive a yellow card. 3) If a player is struck by the ball and the referee blows his whistle immediately, play shall restart with a Throw-in. If play goes on and is stopped further on, it may be restarted with a Fair play.

Bochazo peligroso o deliberado: 1) Si un jugador parado y en posesión de la bocha impacta de manera violenta a un contrario o su montado que se encuentra bien ubicado y a dos caballos o menos de distancia, será sancionado con el foul que corresponda. Si además lesionara de alguna manera al contrario o su montado también se aplicará una tarjeta amarilla. 2) Si un jugador parado y en posesión de la bocha impacta de manera violenta a un contrario o su montado que intenta bloquear el tiro, y está ubicado a dos caballos o menos de distancia, el foul se le cobrará a quien está defendiendo por no liberar correctamente el espacio. Si el jugador o su montado resultaran lesionados de alguna manera, recibirá también una tarjeta amarilla. 3) Si un jugador recibiera un bochazo y el referee sonara su silbato en forma inmediata el juego se reiniciará con un Throwin. . En caso de que la jugada continúe y se detenga mas adelante se podrá reiniciar con un Fair play.
NOTE: in the case of excessive misconduct by clearly identified supporters of a team, the Umpire shall go to that team's captain and warn him, requiring him to go to his supporters and politely ask them to behave. If the misconduct is repeated after the first warning, the umpire shall award a technical against the team involved. He could also give a yellow card if appropriate (to the team captain).

NOTA: en caso de inconducta excesiva de simpatizantes claramente identificados de un equipo, el Juez se dirigirá al capitán de este equipo y lo advertirá obligándolo a que se dirija a sus simpatizantes y les pida educadamente que mantengan la conducta. Si se repitiera la inconducta luego de la primera advertencia el juez otorgará un técnico en contra del equipo involucrado. También podría otorgar una tarjeta amarilla si correspondiera. (al capitán del equipo).
