Facilities: field, goals, boards, ball and safety zone
How big the field, goals, boards and ball are, where the safety zone runs, and who may be on the ground while play is on.
Field of play
The dimensions of a full field shall be as follows: Length: maximum, 275 metres; minimum 230 metres. Width: maximum 180 metres if it is open and 146 metres if it has boards; minimum, 160 metres if it is open and 130 metres if it has boards. The field must also have a strip of clear ground about 10 metres wide on each side beyond the side lines and about 30 metres behind each back line. The field of play and these strips of clear ground together make up the “safety zone”.

Las medidas de una cancha completa serán las siguientes: Largo: máximo, 275 metros; mínimo 230 metros. Ancho: máximo 180 metros si es abierta y 146 metros si tiene tablas; mínimo, 160 metros si es abierta y 130 metros si tiene tablas. La cancha deberá tener, además, una franja de terreno libre de 10 metros de ancho, más o menos, a cada lado de las líneas laterales y de 30 metros, más o menos, detrás de cada línea trasera. La cancha de juego y éstas franjas de terreno libre constituyen en conjunto la “zona de seguridad”.

Nobody on the field
Nobody may come onto the field during play, for any reason, except the players and the umpires. A player who needs a stick, a pony or other help from another person must go to the boards or to the side or back lines to get it. Nobody may come onto the field to help him.

Who may be in the safety zone
Nobody may enter the safety zone during play except the players, the umpires, the referee, the umpires' assistants and the stick holders.

Helpers and changing ponies
When play is stopped the umpire shall let the player's helper onto the field so that he can bring him a pony he has to change or help him with his equipment, so as not to delay the match unnecessarily. During play, horses may be changed only at the ends of the field. There may be no horses standing anywhere else on the field.

Cuando el juego está detenido el juez permitirá el ingreso a la cancha del ayudante del jugador a efectos que le pueda alcanzar un petiso que deba cambiar o auxiliarlo en lo que concierne a su equipo, a fin de no demorar innecesariamente el partido. Durante el juego, sólo se podrá cambiar caballo en las cabeceras. No podrá haber caballos estacionados en ningún otro lugar de la cancha.
